Your loved one has years of wisdom and experience, so you would assume that they would have a fair amount of self-confidence. But sometimes, confidence waivers. However, in a world that is concentrated heavily on appearance your loved one may feel not feel as confident as you’d expect may feel invisible, unattractive, unworthy or even feel as if society does not care about them anymore.
However, all of that could not be further from the truth. It is possible for your loved one to build their confidence with the help of these three tips.
- Find the right community
Finding the right community might not seem like much but if your loved one finds other like-minded people it can help build their self-confidence however, the wrong community can encourage negativity.
Get your loved one to think about their community and whether they are having a positive or negative affect on them. It might be worth getting them to take a step away from relationships that are having a negative impact on their life. Instead encourage them to surround themselves with people who encourage positivity and self-confidence.
- Self-talk
Limit negative self-talk, that voice in our head is consistently what is putting us down. Let your loved one know about the negative impacts self-talk can have, and that it is far more impactful than negative comments from friends and family, as we are more likely to believe ourselves.
Encourage them to notice when negative thoughts about themselves are coming up, and to pay attention to what triggers them. Get your love one into the habit of having a positive response to the negative thoughts.
- Wear whatever you want to
A lot of self-confidence has to do with what we wear and how we style ourselves. This is particularly true for women who can sometimes feel less attractive as they age. Weight gain/loss, wrinkles, changing body shapes and mobility can sometimes make women feel less confident.
Encourage your loved one to wear whatever makes them feel confident, whether that is buying some new clothes or changing their hair. Although changing your appearance is not a necessity to feeling confident it can boost your loved one’s self-esteem.
No matter what age, everyone has struggle with confidence. Significant life changes can rock your loved ones feeling of control and confidence. By encouraging them to follow these steps in can lead them to feelings of happiness and of course self-confidence.
